The Rumours of Lawrence Plaza’s demolition are exaggerated.

(Or at least, hugely premature).

As of March 10, 2025 there are no plans for the plaza to close at all.

RioCan - the current landowner of Lawrence Plaza at Lawrence and Bathurst – has stated that it is "in the early stages of shaping the vision for Lawrence Plaza." They have held one public meeting to present ‘preliminary concepts’ of what that might look like.

Based on the above, the current rental agreements for businesses in the plaza, and the fact that RioCan are still trying to lease empty spaces, we estimate nothing will change here for at least 5 years. Even if things are accelerated, Riocan also states that it is planning a phased approach that "ensures the retail plaza remains operational and supports the success of its businesses throughout the process."
